September Wish List

autumn wish list 2015 fashion blogger
Polo neck: Weekday
Bag: Zara
Lipstick: Mac (Prince Noir)
Skirt: New Look
Boots: Carvela (sold in Topshop)
Shirt: Asos

Admittedly this isn't the most visually pleasing wish list I have done, for some reason half the things I want right now are brown (or tan, same thing) and half are black, which doesn't make for a great colour combination. I usually hate brown but with the whole folk/Seventies trend thing, I am being persuaded to like it again. Don't you think it's just so much easier when all your staples are black? Black bag, black boots, black leather jacket... The switch to brown would be tough because I would have to re-buy all of these things in a more appropriate shade...

The Mac lipstick is on there because I am addicted to Revlon's Black Cherry but it's nowhere near as good quality as Mac lipsticks, so I am trying to find an equivalent. Let me know if you have tried this/seen a good review anywhere!

Kimono: Warehouse
Bag: Topshop
Skirt: Topshop
Top: Primark
Heels: New Look
Necklaces: Topshop
Watch: DKNY

This weekend called for a belated birthday night out (it was my 22nd last Fri). I originally planned on wearing a really nice jumpsuit from Oh My Love  (click here to see), but it turned out to be a bit impractical in terms of boob coverage. I was very disappointed when I realised it wasn't going to work because I do love it but hey ho.

My MacBook just corrected 'it but' into 'titbit', how ironic!

I have been absent for around a month, you might have noticed if you are a frequent reader of my blog (you're probably not but it's nice to pretend I have some). Basically, my laptop (an OLD Sony Vaio) decided to give up on its long, long, long, long life. But on the plus side, I got a MacBook Air as a replacement. Yey.

March Wish List

I realise this is very last minute but hey ho! My laptop has been ridiculously slow lately, so I did start compiling this list a while ago but I had to give up on it after a whole Saturday morning of waiting for web pages to load. I now despise that little loading circle.

Festival Fashion 2015

Summer is slowly creeping up on us; the nights are getting lighter, morning frost is (almost) gone from our lives and yes, festival line-up rumours are beginning to spread. Brace yourself for the predictable fashion mayhem that only a music festival can conjure up.

How to: Glowing Skin

the best products for glowing skin uk

That 'healthy  glow' is something every girl has wanted to achieve since the emergence of Millie Mackintosh onto our TV screens. Millie became known for her glowing skin in MIC, she has since admitted that the show's make-up artists attempted to powder away the shine, but she refused to let them.

Personally, I am glad she did, because I thought she looked great! My desire to use fake tan and up the moisturiser application increased by 100% after watching Made in Chelsea, and I'm sure this wasn't just me? The glow, however, is easier said than done. Don't be fooled by believing you can simply apply extra moisturiser to achieve said sumptuous skin. The line between greasy and glowing is a fine and easily broken one.

Workwear Style Inspiration

After years of rolling up to lectures in the first outfit you could locate in a (well, in my case at least) rather messy wardrobe, entering the world of work can provide a highly difficult clothing conundrum. What is acceptable? What is too 'work-like'? What is too casual? There are so many questions that have crossed my mind when starting new jobs or internships.

OOTD: Fluffy Cardigan and Pointed Boots

Cardigan: H&M, jeans: Topshop, bag: Michael Kors, necklaces: Topshop, top: Topshop, boots: Asos

There is nothing I love more than clothing that provides a practical function as well as an aesthetic one. This cardigan, which was a bargain at £15 (I think) from the ever-pleasing high street store that is H&M, provides both said needs.

I went to Newcastle yesterday (amid political rally, great timing), to meet a friend and do some shopping. Having lived in this city for three years during uni, I was well aware I would need to layer up, so not only did I wear this beaut, I also threw on my duster coat over the top. In my eyes, you can never wear too many clothes. I have frequently worn a leather jacket under my duster coat to work - leading to my boss having dreams in which I wear ten plus pieces of outerwear.

Brits & Oscars 2015: Personal Picks

If we disregard Madonna's capetastrophe for a moment, we can take time to appreciate some of the more successful ensembles of the awards season. Celebs and stylists seem to up the ante with each awards show; the BAFTAs were okay, the Grammy's were a little bit better and the Oscars and Brits were next level.

With the Oscars comes die hard designer styling and with the Brits comes classic  Brit cool. Which is your favourite?

Lust List

uk fashion blog wish list 2015
Sleeveless duster jacket: Missguided, pointed flats: New Look, culottes: New Look, Bag: Asos, Boots: Topshop

I have already done a wish list post this month, but with there being so many things out there that I want to buy, here I go again. I am slightly obsessed with the pared back, modern trend at the moment. I already own a few duster coats/jackets and wide leg pants but I am yet to get my hands on culottes, and a pair of nice flats is something my wardrobe has been lacking for quite some time!

I first saw these white, New Look versions on one of Lily Melrose's Youtube hauls. In the vid she rightly points out that New Look's online shoe collection is far better than it ever is in store, so I had a bit of a browse and found about ten pairs I wanted to buy that I definitely have never seen in store!

OOTD: Casual Weekend Wear

Top: River Island, jeans: Topshop (Joni), boots: Asos, rings: Dixi, Rock 'N Rose and H&M, duster coat: Missguided, bag: Michael Kors, necklaces: Topshop

I stumbled into River Island on my lunch break for a 'quick browse'. Inevitably, my intention to look, but keep my purse firmly located within my handbag ended in failure as usual. I caved to this heather effect vest top due to the subtle yet eye-catching cut out detail to the back. Even though it is just another vest top, and it is rather plain, it occurred to me in this moment that the most valuable items in my wardrobe in terms of cost-per-wear, are in fact purchases such as these.

The well made vest top, T-shirt or plain top of any sort, really, is not a frivolous waste of money, but an investment. Or so I told myself as I pondered with limited time on my hands and a mental countdown occurring in my minds eye.

Anyway, I think it makes for the perfect 'throw me on' casual clothing option. Paired with these heavy duty hiking boots and longline duster coat, I was clearly trying to emulate my style icon of the week, Suki Waterhouse's, casual-cool off-duty looks.

Style Stalk: Suki Waterhouse

suki waterhouse style 2015
If you have been attentive over the past year you will undoubtedly have heard of Suki Waterhouse. The model turned actress (so cliche) appeared in Love, Rosie in 2014, a film adaptation of Cecelia Ahern's novel Where Rainbows End - I seriously recommend this film (or book) for anyone who loves a good romance. I ended up seeing it at the cinema due to a mix up with film timings, but thankfully we all loved it! I have since downloaded all of Cecelia's novels.

Anyway, Suki's style is so... Cool? I can't think of another way to describe it. She chooses clashing accessories which ordinarily would not be assumed to make an acceptable combo, but somehow on Suki they work. She seems to have a knack for finding unique pieces (note the blue metallic jacket above) that perfectly reflect her unique style.

If her sartorial choices aren't enough to convince you, take a moment to consider her (amazing) hair:

Trend of the Week: Floral Overload

floral trend ss15 high street picks
1. Topshop, 2. Topshop, 3.Asos, 4. Topshop

From Celine to Prada, the Spring/Summer '15 catwalks exhibited an abundance of botanical detailing. Vogue's Maya Singer states that the shows 'affirmed that decor is officially part of the fashion zeitgeist', she makes this correlation between fashion and interiors due to the seasons excessively bold prints and designers' use of upholstery fabric such as velvet and silk. In other words, it is now fashionable to look as though you have literally formed your ensemble using your nan's old curtains.

Post minimalist, Nineties normcore, designers are providing us with an alternative in the form of the exact opposite. Your chic white separates are still standing their ground, but if you are sick of applying your makeup with so much care and precision to avoid getting a splash on your crisp white crop, this is the trend for you. Personally, I love floral patterns, so I am very excited to see them return for summer! I especially love this Asos Co-Ord (#3).

Grammys 2015: The Good, the Odd and the Ugly

Grammys 2015 best dressed rita kardashian kelly osbourne fashion blog
The controversy surrounding this years Grammy dresses is as effervescent as ever. The questions being bandied around Twitter are endless - is Kim too exposed? Does Rihanna look like a marshmallow? Or a work of art? There seems, these days, to be less of a consensus of opinion than ever. Personally, I like Rihanna's dress, if only for the fact that she is brave enough to wear it. The musicians on either side of her, Sia (left) and Joy Villa , however, are definitely within the category of ridiculous. Sia can't see for a start and I don't even need to comment on Joy - at least we know her name now, which I can only assume was her aim.

As for the best dressed, in my personal opinion, Rita, Kelly O and Kim came out on top. I have always been a massive fan of Rita's style, she wears bold pieces, but (unlike Rihanna) they are undeniably stylish. Same goes for Kelly O, she clearly has her own style, but this dress is perfect. The long sleeves, high neck and textured finish make for an on trend and super flattering ensemble - topped off with lilac hair, the whole look is so on point. Snaps for Kel!

FEBRUARY WISH LIST

fashion blogger wish list february 2015 uk
1. - Monki via Asos (jeans), 2. Asos, 3.Asos, 4. Asos Reclaimed Vintage, 5. Adidas Originals (found via Zalando), 6. Mac Marvel Eyeshadow, 7. Asos, 8. Dr. Martens (Via Asos)

I realise the majority of this stuff is sourced from Asos, I always try to make picks from a variety of stores but Asos is just too good! As I mentioned in this post last week, I have recently become obsessed with the Asos Reclaimed Vintage range, and this velvet jumpsuit is another eye-catching piece that I want soo badly! The suede skirt (no.3) is also available in black, and although it is kinda pricey (I think it was about £50, could be exaggerating) I have been searching for one like it for a long time. Being 5'2", finding skirts and dresses is a tough, tough task - most of them drown you and make you look like a 5 year old. sob.

P.S. I haven't gone crazy, I genuinely think purple eye-shadow looks good. I always stick to typical brown shades (specifically Urban Decay's Naked 3 palette) but with the 70's trend this season, why not try new beauty looks too?

Coat: Missguided
Boots: Asos
Jeans: Topshop

Bag: Michael Kors Sophie

I am so obsessed with everything over-sized recently. In the summer my obsession with long outerwear began, I bought this duster jacket from Monki, this cardigan and this longline white blazer (the latter two were bargains from Primark). It has now extended to a love of over-sized shirts - I have recently purchased a striped shirt and a khaki shirt, both of which were 3-6 sizes too big for me, admittedly I returned the size 18, realizing it was perhaps a step too far for my 5'2" petite frame.

Interestingly, my instagram photo of my khaki shirt got more likes than most of my other photos, bearing in mind that it was only a silly mirror photo of not too fantastic quality (view here if you're confused) I could only deduce that it must be down to the fact that others are equally taken up by the oversized shirt at present, specifically in SS15's coolest colour: Khaki. Well, either this or I over-did the hashtags, which is also probable - I even felt the need to include #unecessaryhashtags.

When I first purchased this Missguided duster coat, I was slightly overwhelmed by the large size and mannish shoulders, but since I had wanted one for ages (after trying on a similar long black coat in Zara), I gave it a few days to grow on me. Now, after styling it with a few different outfits, I am in love. It adds the perfect chic, modern finish to a casual outfit - and it is the closest thing to a dressing gown that it is acceptable to wear outdoors.

Style Stalk: Style Inspiration From Sienna Miller

Now and again a celebrity weaves their way onto the radar of the worldwide fashion conscious. They feature in every 'Best Dressed' list, they land Vogue covers and are inevitably snapped on the FROW (or even hugging Karl himself). For most, their fashion fame is fleeting, for some eternal (Alexa, Kate, the Olsens). This is the year, however, that one fashion icon makes a comeback. 2015 has already seen boho queen of the noughties, Sienna Miller, emerge from her fame hiatus with an ever so slightly revised, yet equally envy inducing wardrobe as 2005.

Noughties Sienna was a boho inspired, welly wearing, Glastonbury attending free spirit, 2015's Sienna, now a mother, has had her hair chopped to a more grown up, statement bob and opts for paired back, tailored ensembles and statement dresses. Let's soak up some style inspo...

Not only does she demonstrate the versatility of short hair (I am definitely going to be copying some of these hairstyles), she also masters day wear and evening wear whilst incorporating some of SS15's hottest trends. Stripes, embellishment and long hemlines are but a few of the trends that Sienna has shown an appreciation for.

I personally don't usually take inspiration from 'celeb style', favouring the sartorial choices of bloggers and people around me, but when it comes to Sienna, the woman who matches her heels to her lipstick (refer to image 3) I can definitely make an exception.

OOTD: Wide Leg Co-Ord & Biker Jacket

 Top: Asos
Trousers: Asos
Jacket: All Saints
Necklaces: Topshop
Hat: Topshop
Shoes: New Look

I have recently discovered Asos' 'Reclaimed Vintage' range, and it is fair to say I am slightly obsessed. I managed to bag this geo print co-ord for (I think) a total of £34 before it sold out, which I was super happy about considering it was reduced from £70.

The range itself is made up of retro styles and reworked vintage fabrics with a heavy focus on 70's wide leg pants and jumpsuits (another of my current obsessions). Everything looks authentic and stylish and it manages to maintain a unique vibe similar to that of Motel. I am pretty sure I will end up buying a lot more from this range - all I can say is, look out for the sales!

Flares: Street Style Inspiration

The seventies are back with a vengeance. In the midst of vintage tee's, bolero jackets, slinky scarves and platforms, flares are taking the lead with a distinctive 'look at me' attitude.

Why is the flared trouser so easily reinstated into our skinny-jean favoring wardrobes? Unlike the Mom jeans of 2014 and the skinny jeans of, well, the past 10 years, the flare is the ultimate power player. No one can call the flared trouser 'humble', even styled in a minimalist fashion, the flare makes a bold statement. The woman wearing the figure flattering flared trouser is elegant, powerful and fearless. This is the vibe of 2015's female.

So, obviously persuaded by my introductory rambling on the power of the flare, the next step involves the crucial decision of which to buy and how to style them. There are so many I like out there, but I am yet to choose which to go for. The main thing to bear in mind is that there are three predominant style tribes when it comes to this trend: Minimalist Modern, Blue Denim and Boho Folk.

Minimalist Modern
Flares street style 2015 minimalist

Rules:
- Must be at least 80% one colour (namely black or white). You can (as Natascha from Natascha Elisa has done) carry a printed or contrasting accessory, but note: as soon as she puts that coat on, the outfit no longer fits in this category.
- None denim materials preferable. Think something that would 'swish' or crease easily, and you're there.
- Do not overdo the accessories. Less is more.

Blue Denim
blue denim flares street styleRules:
  • Preferably indigo denim, but if like Kate Moss you can pull off anything, then whatevs.
  • The more extreme the flare the better, think bell bottom rather than subtle graduation.
  • If you're going for a full-on 70's vibe with this, pair with a blouse or fur. Or both.

Boho Folk
patterned flares street style

Rules:
  • Must be printed.
  • Pair with a top as plain as possible.
  • Hair should generally be styled in relaxed waves or plaits.
  • Toughen up with a leather or denim jacket if you're feeling too airy fairy.

Health & Fitness: How To Get Motivated (And Stay That Way!)

We all start the year with the aim of being healthier, happier and fitter. How long this lasts, however, is varying, and for some it is admittedly not a great length of time. This short lived motivation is evident in the influx of January gym-goers.

I joined the gym three years ago when I was in my first year of Uni, and thanks to my gym bunny friend, I stuck at it and loved it, I went from thinking people who paid £25 per month for a gym membership were insane to trying to convince each one of my none gym attending friends that joining would without doubt improve their lives and they simply had to do it. Having since left uni, moved away from my motivating friend and started full time work, my commitment has at times waned, however, I have found the key to keeping it up lies in the following:

1. Always associate the gym (or whatever your health goal is) with positive things, for example, instead of remembering how bored I got during Body Pump last Tuesday, I think of how good I felt afterwards for having done it, and how the muscle ache the day after improved my mood tenfold because it made me feel like I was one step closer to having Adriana Lima's abs.

2. Make realistic (and short term) goals. Kinda cliche, but it works. My (kind of) New Years resolution is to go to the gym three times a week, I know this is possible even whilst working full time, because I have done it for the past two weeks with ease - I now have no excuses. I chose three times a week specifically because I knew it was do-able. This is the key to keeping motivated: don't set yourself a goal that is too difficult, if you fail to do it once, you are more likely to give up altogether.

3. Focus on short term goals. There are many reasons you might want to go to the gym or eat healthier, to lose weight, improve skin health, gain muscle, tone up, improve general health, long term health, well-being... There are so many positives that come out of being healthy, but what you need to focus on is the here and now. In simple terms this means keep your mind focused on what you want from today, when you wake up, don't think 'ugh I need to go to the gym so that I have abs for Ibiza in August', think 'I am going to go to the gym today and complete my routine, then I can chill and feel proud of myself tonight'.

4. Don't make stupid excuses. My main reasons for not going to the gym when I plan to have been along the lines of 'its dark, its late, it's far away, why should I bother, I deserve a break'... Although these things feel like legit excuses at the time, I still without fail feel happier if I push past them and get myself there (probs endorphins). Once you're there it is no big deal, there are other people managing it and you feel so proud of yourself for tackling laziness, making the gym buzz a whole lot better.

5. Stay inspired... Instagram is one of my favourite apps, so I make sure I follow some motivating pages, here are some of my favourites...
